The book was adapted from a 1994 movie “A Borrowed Life” in Taiwan. The film is the director’s faithful and touching account of his father as well as many fathers in that era. The author of this comic book spent two years depicting a man called SEGA, who was born during Japanese-occupied Taiwan and works in a coal mine town. SEGA has stayed in the coal mine town all his life. He speaks only Taiwanese and Japanese. This book is all about how SEGA’s values differ from that of other kids, who were educated to speak Mandarin Chinese.
